Gene Therapy to Restore Vision A little over a year ago, the FDA approved a new gene therapy to treat patients with an inherited eye disease of the retina that may result in blindness. Those that were treated demonstrated significant improvements in their ability to see and function. Only a small percentage of the population has this serious and rare form of vision loss caused by Leber’s congenital amaurosis or retinitis pigmentosa. Please contact our office if you or someone you know has the above eye diseases or a family history of the diseases and would like genetic testing to determine qualification for the treatment.
