Scholarship Winner and Fall Update

2019 FALL NEWSLETTER

Congratulations to our Scholarship Winner!

For the past nine years, we have offered our SPOG Scholarship to a graduating senior from SPHS whose character and personality stands out among his/her peers. This year, the teachers at SPHS selected Akash Rathi for being a positive and enthusiastic cheerleader for his peers and classmates. Congratulations Akash and best wishes at NYU!

More Convenience and Affordability

Our doctors and opticians continually test and try new products before offering them to our patients. As a result, we are excited to announce that we can now make your glasses in office! This will provide a quicker turnaround time and improved affordability and convenience for our patients, while maintaining high quality standards. Stop by our office and see what’s best for your needs!

Being at the Forefront

Our practice is always at the forefront when it comes to new technology that can better serve our patients. We are proud to be the first and only office in the San Gabriel Valley area to provide the latest technology in fitting scleral contact lenses. The sMap3D is an innovative and revolutionary way of obtaining a 3D map of your eyes to allow our doctors to design customized scleral contact lenses for your eyes. These contact lenses are commonly prescribed for patients with dry eyes, keratoconus or other corneal conditions. Please contact our office for more information.

What’s New in Contact Lenses?

Speaking of what’s new and available, three exciting contact lens options are now available for our patients which are not widely available elsewhere.

Imagine a contact lens that transitions to a light brown tint for those bright California days and returns to a clear lens indoors. If you’re one of those who suffers from glare and sensitivity to light outdoors, you may benefit from these new contacts! Ask us about these lenses at your next visit!
Our office has also been selected to test an exciting new daily disposable lens that has shown superior moisture, comfort, vision and end-of-day dryness. And it provides ultraviolet protection and is affordable. Who doesn’t want that?! This is a perfect option for students and those looking for a budget-friendly daily disposable soft contact lens. Our doctors have tried the lens and give it a thumbs up! We’re excited to have you try it too.
The hottest topic in colored lenses are limbal enhancing colors which enhances your natural eye color while making eyes appear bigger and brighter. There is now a daily disposable option, which our doctors prefer due to its superior comfort and low risk of eye infection.

Gene Therapy to Restore Vision

A little over a year ago, the FDA approved a new gene therapy to treat patients with an inherited eye disease of the retina that may result in blindness. Those that were treated demonstrated significant improvements in their ability to see and function. Only a small percentage of the population has this serious and rare form of vision loss caused by Leber’s congenital amaurosis or retinitis pigmentosa. Please contact our office if you or someone you know has the above eye diseases or a family history of the diseases and would like genetic testing to determine qualification for the treatment.

Staff Highlight

We are very proud to announce that Dr. Annie Lee Kim is now a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Fellow of the Scleral Lens Society! This qualifies her as one of the only experienced scleral contact lens fitters in the area. Dr. Lee has worked diligently for this distinction and is excited to provide quality care for her patients who need scleral contact lenses.

Congratulations to our lab optician, Adam, for earning his certification from the American Board of Opticianry! This voluntary certification qualifies one’s skills and knowledge to work with patients. Adam currently serves as our lab optician and is responsible for making our in-house glasses.
